Less than six days until #6. I have runner’s knee now. It bothers me whenever I walk down stairs. I did my final speed workout last Wednesday with Mario pacing me and ran a 5:38 1600. It was close to all out but until then, the fastest mile I had run in a workout was 5:51. I was surprised. Most of my fast workouts have been crappy so I thought I had lost speed. Afterwards I did two cruise 1600s at 6:15 and 6:18. On Sunday I did 13.1 with 6 x 2:00 at 6:30-6:35 pace. Not too bad, aside from the knee flaring up a bit at speed.
I hope my knee doesn’t bother me for the marathon. I am already afraid of how much it might hurt even if all systems are at 100%. I would like to hurt on my own terms. Does that ever happen in a marathon?

Balls, sorry to hear that about the knee. I suppose the only course of action is to do everything you can in the way of extra TLC in the coming days and then… forget about it on race day and hope that the excitement and focus on racing suppresses the pain. Really, really, really, really, really good luck to you in the marathon!
That’s a speedy mile!
Sending you lots of good luck for a healthy knee this week. Can’t wait to hear how the race goes!
Damn on the knee but Dang on the mile – that’s a huge difference from your last fastest! Have a great race and keep that knee happy, crossing fingers and toes that it behaves so you can get that huge PR you are most certainly going due.
